Not NRG.

This is definitely not NRG. NRG is trash.

Tastey.

I don't really have anything constructive to say, which is unusual. I just really like the keyboard sample you use. Good job.

Bobox responds:

Thanks, I've listened to some of your stuff, and most of it is really good ("Involuntary Eviction of Soul" comes to mind), keep on doing great music dude ;)

Goodness.

This song has everything I love in music. =D

I could sit here and praise you over and over about how amazing this is, but I uhh.. have questions. Is the vinyl sound in the beginning a sample, or is it something you generated yourself? Same question in regards to the jazz piano throughout. Also, do you write stand alone stuff? Or just in tandem with your music? Don't feel like you need to answer any of these if you can't be arsed. >_>

Not really a review, but rest assured that I sincerely love this track.

LLAAPPSSEE responds:

Well, wow. It feels pretty good to encompass everything you love in music in one song : D

Haha, I'll take your comment about being able to praise me over and over as enough praise and get to your questions :P

The vinyl sound came from a VST + real vinyl sample. I'm finicky.

The piano chords you hear in the beginning are of my own. Also, the higher noted arpeggio that it goes through later on in the song.

The backing notes are samples from jazz pianist "Bill Evans". However, cut up and arranged to my liking. I took samples from a couple of his songs. I generally never just straight up use a sample. I like to mix my own piano with some nicer real piano. Or midi-control. I have to make it my own as much as i can. That classic timbre is hard to get though.

As far as writing goes. I've been writing in regards to my music. Random ideas that come to me and such. I think an album with a story or something sounds fun. An insert with writing to read while you listen..

Thank you very much for your comments and questions!

Great work.

I'm a huge fan of this type of music, but like another poster said gosh this needs some remastering. Its most noticeable in the first 10 seconds of the song or so. Crackling kills babies. >_>

Aside from that, so much of this was awesome. The melodic work was inspiring. I think from that alone it's really clear that you've been making music for a while. Also, a punchier kick would've been good. Not necessarily more bassy but just punchier, more forward in the mix. The one you use is bassy enough, maybe too much, which is making the actual sound of the kick kind of buried.

10/10 5/5 fav'd etc. etc. good stuff.
If you have time please check out some of my music. :)

Shit, I'm in Africa.

This is good. Seriously man this is fucking intense. I get an urge to hunt lions while listening to this, or something. The panning of the percussion in this really makes it so much more professional. Good job man.

S3C responds:

haha hunt them lions!!

glad it took you to africa. and glad you noticed the panning. Thanks for another review John!

Uhh..?

This is real quiet man. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be that quiet or what. Even with my speakers way up most of this was unintelligible. Like I said i dunno if this is how you intended it to be, so I won't vote on it yet.

S3C responds:

yep its supposed to be soft and quiet. Most likely a problem on your end, I'll boost it even more if more people complain :P I have the instruments cranked to their full percentage, but the dynamics are quite quiet.

Um thanks for the zero?!?! naw thanks for listening sorry it was too quiet for ya :P

Epic.

This is real fucking DnB. That's all there is to it.

DJ-NOSEBLEED responds:

Wow, I cant believe I actually had the chance to be #1 on DnB, and its people like you who helped it happen. Thanks for the support!

High quality.

Everything here sounds really high quality, especially for not using any presets. I didn't listen to the original, but what you've presented here is really good. There's a lot of subtlety to the automation work you do here, and I think it works really well.

The bit at the end caught me off guard.

I really didn't like the guitar type lead that came in early on. Everything else about this is awesome though, especially the odd rhythms and tempo changes.

It for some reason reminds me of King's Quest, the old Sierra game. I don't really know why. >_>

If you get a chance check out my music and leave a review on somethin'. :)

culmor30 responds:

Haha, King's Quest! :D I love that game. Thanks much for reviewing, I'll check out your music tomorrow sometime.

Neat.

If you dropped the kick, added some generic dnb rhythms and threw this into the video game genre, you'd get a lot better reactions. =D

Or... Slow it down, drop the snare like an eigth note and put it in hip hop. Just a thought.

You have a knack for coming up with neat melodies, but this is just really repetitive. GAH I cant get over how terrible the kick sounds. >_>
